LOCAL RESOURCES. EQUAL ACCESS.

This November Sylvania voters and taxpayers will have the opportunity to establish that the City of Sylvania’s tax and other revenues will be spent on City services and will not be directed to federal immigration enforcement. In addition, voters will have the opportunity to establish that City services, benefits, programs or protections will be available to all residents and visitors to the City of Sylvania without regard to their individual immigration status.

Through a petition initiated by over 400 current City of Sylvania voters, the Sylvania Resource Conservation and Equal Access Ordinance will be voted on by Sylvania voters on November 3rd.

Three Reasons to Vote YES on Issue 14

Issue 14 is a practical, lawful approach to local government: protect taxpayer-funded City resources, ensure every resident can access essential City services, and strengthen public safety across Sylvania.

Keep Local Resources Local
Ensure Equal Access to City Services

The ordinance ensures City services, benefits, programs and protections are not conditioned on immigration status unless required by law. Everyone should be able to seek emergency help, report a crime and access local government without unnecessary barriers.

Build a Safer Sylvania

Issue 14 supports effective policing, constitutional protections and stronger trust between residents and their City.

Follow the Law, Protect Local Priorities

Issue 14 does not stop federal immigration enforcement, block compliance with valid judicial warrants or court orders, or prevent cooperation on criminal investigations unrelated to federal civil immigration enforcement. It sets clear, responsible boundaries for City resources.

We already back the Blue with 152 BILLION for ICE.  Let's Back Sylvania and all who live here.

Pursuant to the US Constitution

Pursuant to the US Constitution and law the federal government has sole responsibility for immigration enforcement in the United States. The proposed ordinance does nothing to weaken or impede the federal government's authority and ability to enforce immigration laws in the City of Sylvania. The ordinance does, however, limit the City from spending its resources on immigration enforcement.

The Ordinance reserves City resources for key City services, including police protection, road repair and maintenance, snow and leaf removal, and providing water and sewer services to the citizens of Sylvania. The Ordinance directs that police and other City departments will not require proof of immigration status prior to receiving services from the City, including emergency services.

LONGER TABLES,

NOT HIGHER FENCES.

We believe we can protect local resources, support effective local policing, comply with the law and remain a community where people know they can turn to their City for help. Those ideas do not have to compete with one another. And with these efforts, we build a stronger, safer, and kinder community - a wealth of good worth investing in!

Why the Facts matter

  • Issue 14 does not prohibit federal immigration enforcement in Sylvania.
  • It does not prohibit compliance with valid judicial warrants or court orders.
  • It does not prevent cooperation with federal law enforcement regarding criminal activity unrelated to civil immigration enforcement.
  • It does establish limits on using City resources for federal civil immigration enforcement.
  • And it does establish equal access to City services, benefits, programs and protections without conditioning that access on immigration status except where otherwise required by law.

This Ordinance requires the City to continue to cooperate with federal law enforcement authorities in the investigation or prosecution of criminal activity unrelated to civil immigration enforcement. The Ordinance also directs that the City will comply with any valid judicial warrant or court order and with all applicable federal or state laws that expressly mandate local government participation with federal law enforcement.
